Good day, I am Arthur. Arthur S., to be more specific. I.T. and the Library are the two professional domains I excel in. I am the published author of five children's books and five adult fiction novels, which you can find here at the library! I love using my skills to help patrons, and so far they have made this the best job I have ever had. Someone once told me that when you love what you do, you will never work a day in your life. So, is this work? Don't tell my director "I'm lovin' I.T."
I was born and raised in Norfolk, VA. I have been coming to the Northern Neck since I was knee high to a grasshopper, even though I didn't officially live in the area until 2011. I'm what you call an "accidental librarian," and have been working at Northumberland Public Library for 13 years. What started as a small, part-time thing grew into the Customer Service Supervisor I am today. I wear a lot of hats. I run the front desk, interact with all ages coming through the front door, and recently took on doing Interlibrary Loans. So, I can search through other libraries for materials we may not carry. I'm the fiercest Xerox fighter this side of the Rappahannock. Away from the desk, I'm a mom raising 3 busy kiddos with my husband, Ken. I'm a big Peanuts and Lord of the Rings fan. I like to paint with acrylics when I have the time, and hope to learn how to surf one day. I love everything to do with space and learning new things about the cosmos. I leave you with this quote, "Keep looking up... that's the secret of life." - Snoopy
I'm a Come-Here, originally from Henrico, and came to White Stone with my family. After school, I moved to Reedville with my husband, had two kids, and am the proud grandmother of two. I am now semi-retired, working as the Library's Bookkeeper. In my spare time, I enjoy camping, working in my flowerbeds, hanging out with my dachshund, Frankie, and spending time with the grands! I live a very boring life...
Born in Washington, DC, raised in Arlington, VA. Many say I'm a come here, but quite honestly, I feel like I was raised here. I followed my grandparents to the 'neck when they retired here in early 1970. Bought my house here in 2002 and moved to the NNK full-time in 2009. My favorite hobby is to feed all the animals at my house. There are deer and bunnies that all come running when I call them, and I have many birds that love the bird feeders and houses that I have put out for them. Who needs to go on vacation when you live in a paradise called the Northern Neck!!!
Hi. My name is Jane Blue, and it is my pleasure to be the Northumberland Public Library Director. I have served in this capacity for 6 years and loved every minute of it. I was born in Williamsport PA, the Little League Capital of the world. I am an avid reader but also love to quilt, hike and spend time with my grandchildren. One thing you may not know about me is that for a few years I was a professional clown and even attended the professional clown school in Sarasota, FL.
Hello. I'm Joshua Shipman, library clerk, internet technician, and history buff extraordinaire. I designed this website. I am also that guy who can reach the thing on the top shelf, so feel free to ask. I grew up in and around the Greater Houston Area of the Texas Gulf Coast, and moved to Virginia in 2024. In school, I double majored in History and Philosophy, so consider yourself warned should you try to speak to me. I'm liable to talk your ear off if you catch my interest. Fun fact: I design my own tabletop games, campaigns, and settings.
Hi! I'm Nicole Carrington, and I was born in Burlington, New Jersey, but I didn't live there long, as I was a military child moving from place to place. I am currently the Children and Youth Services Coordinator, which is a fancy way of saying I'm the person managing the children's and teen programs and sections. A fun fact about me is before moving to the Northern Neck, I lived and worked in Kofu, Yamanashi, Japan and speak, read, and write in conversational Japanese.
Hello! I'm Savannah. I was born in Las Vegas, Nevada, but what was born in Vegas did not stay in Vegas. I grew up in Buena Vista, Colorado, where I grew to love the outdoors, wildlife, photography, and exploring. I'm in charge of cataloging all of the library's new books and other items, so feel free to ask me if your need help finding something! When I'm not at the library, I'm probably out exploring new things. I like long walks on the beach and poking dead things with sticks.
