Monte Lake is the President of the Board of Trustees. Monte was born and raised in Bakersfield California and moved to the Northern Neck in 1977. Monte has a law background and before retiring practiced federal law in Washington DC. He enjoys fishing, golfing, reading, and traveling.
Roxsey Dameron is a Northumberland Native and teaches 4th grade at Northumberland Elementary School. She serves as the Board of Trustees Vice President and has been on the board since 2022. Roxsey’s hobbies include reading, photography, and spending time on the water.
Peggy Nolting is the Board Treasurer and a Tennessee native, who moved to the Northern Neck in 2016. She has supported the same company for 19 years as the head of Financial Operations, and is also very active with Child Evangelism Fellowship. Peggy loves spending time with her dogs and her family, and gardening.
Dana Nicholas is originally from Pennsylvania, and moved to the Northern Neck in 2016. Dana retired from Westmoreland County Schools in 2019, and loves reading, gardening, and watercolor painting. She is the current Secretary of the Board, having moved into that position in July of 2025. She also runs the meal delivery program at Henderson United Methodist Church, and is active in her education sorority.
Michelle Gordon is a native of Northumberland County, and has served on the Board of Trustees since 2024. Michelle is the Director of Testing and Accountability for the Northumberland Public School system. Michelle enjoys reading, spending time outdoors, time with her family, and finding time to exercise.
Hoyt Wheeland is a native of Ohio, and retired in 1992 when he moved to the Northern Neck. He has a background in Agriculture and Conservation and worked for the US Forest Service. We should really be calling him Dr. Wheeland since he has a PHD in Agricultural Economics. He serves on the Board Finance Committee, and volunteers for many organizations, as well as spends time with his grandchildren and great grandchildren.
Temple Moore served as an aviator for both the Navy and the Army, retiring from active duty in 1998. He then went on to fly for TWA, and finally retired to the Northern Neck after 42 years in Alexandria, VA. Temple serves as the Chair of Financial Development for the Board, and has served on the Board since 2021.
Bryna Brennan moved to the Northern Neck full time in 2012, and raises service dogs for Canine Companions. Bryna is a founding member of Ye Olde Book Shoppe, and served on the Board of Trustees in 2013. She rejoined the Board in 2024 and chairs the Marketing Committee. Bryna is also a master naturalist, and works with the Northern Neck Native Plant Society.
Debra Mattera moved to the Northern Neck from the Island of St. Croix in 2020, during the Pandemic. She has been a nurse for over 40 years, and was born and raised in Wilmington, Massachusetts. She is an avid volunteer and serves as an election official, tirelessly, at Ye Olde Book Shoppe and at the library. Debra loves to garden and read, and is in the process of helping her husband start a farm.
Donna Spitzer is a retired school math teacher and school counselor who taught in Fairfax County Public Schools for 42 years. Donna has served on the Board since 2024. She enjoys volunteer work and helps out at the Tavern. Donna enjoys boating, yard work, and spending time with family and friends. She also loves Thrift stores.
Jane Blue is a native of Pennsylvania, but has called Virginia home for over 20 years. As a military spouse, she never lived anywhere for more than 3 years until moving to Northern Virginia in 2002, and buying their first house in Northumberland County in 2005. She as been the NPL Director for 6 years, and loves serving the community. In her spare time, she loves to read, spend time with her grandchildren, and garden.
